Agile project management is an iterative approach to managing projects that follows the principles of agile software development. It focuses on delivering business value, collaboration between teams and stakeholders, continual improvement, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements or market conditions. Agile project management uses short cycles called “sprints” for planning, execution, monitoring progress and making changes as needed throughout the life of a project.
The main benefits of agile project management include increased transparency, better collaboration between teams and stakeholders, improved customer satisfaction due to faster delivery times, and greater flexibility in responding to changes or unexpected events. Additionally, it can lead to cost savings by reducing rework and allowing for more efficient use of resources.
A sprint is an iterative cycle used in agile methodology that typically lasts anywhere from one week to one month. During each sprint, teams plan tasks they will complete during the period and then work towards completing those tasks by the end of the cycle. At the end of each sprint there is usually a review where progress can be assessed and adjustments made as necessary for future cycles.
The main differences between agile and traditional project management are in their approaches to planning, execution, and control of projects. Agile methodology focuses on delivering business value early and often through shorter cycles (sprints) that allow for more frequent feedback from stakeholders. Traditional project management tends to be more rigid in its approach with longer planning phases followed by a less iterative execution process. Additionally, agile puts an emphasis on collaboration while traditional project management is typically more focused on individual tasks or responsibilities.
